The U.S. military's ability to stay ahead of technology advances by other countries and respond to multiple crises around the world is already in jeopardy and will get worse unless mandatory budget cuts are reversed, top U.S. officials warned on Saturday.
Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Jonathan Greenert told Reuters the Navy would have to cut forces and reduce its ability to position ships around the world if lawmakers did not ease or reverse the cuts, which are due to resume in fiscal 2016.

As long as the DoD gay pride month activities are fully funded, that’s all that really matters...
What about NASA’s Muslim outreach?
Last week I visited the WWII Museum of the Pacific in Fredericksburg, TX. This is Chester Nimitz’s home town. One of the last plaques before exiting was the text of a speech made by Nimitz which said something to effect that we were woefully ill prepared for WWII and he prayed to God that such a situation would never happen again. The way things have been going in recent years with loss of industial capacity, poor education and military cuts, it certainly appears that Nimitz’s prayer is not being answered!
Cut the Navy’s budget? How about cutting the lgbt crap and doing something about women getting pregnant on purpose so as not to have to participate in a mission she is afraid of (yes, this happens often enough, where entire ships/subs are turned around to drop her off to have the baby, only to have an abortion instead)?
We are on the precipice of paying a huge price for years of social experiments in the military. Will the public at large make the connection?
I didn’t think so.
As long as the Caliph keeps providing weapons and money to Jihadists all will be good.
Active Duty ping.
Obama and the DOD leadership are more interested in flying rainbow flags and celebrating the anus than in being militarily ready for anything.
What was the story yesterday of an Army combat pilot being drummed out, because he interfered with the photographing of two lesbo officers performing a public slobber/gropefest on a dancefloor?
Sick beyond words what has become of both the country and its military. I have zero confidence in either, with these perverts in charge. A government and a military that legally and culturally regards two perverted homos as the same equivalent as a husband-and-wife is not a government nor a military that I have any faith in, nor respect for.
That’s a fantastic museum, BTW.
Actually, US military technology needs reassessment, using some straightforward logic.
First is “The law of diminishing returns.”
The US intends to build two Gerald R. Ford class aircraft carriers, at a cost of $12.68 billion each (FY14). Likely a very top of the line aircraft carrier. It is 1100 feet long and displaces 100,000 tons.
What if instead, the US Navy was to instead buy two aircraft carrier, that were 2200 feet long, displaced 200,000 tons, and cost $25 billion dollars. Would they be better?
How about having our entire aircraft carrier fleet in a single ship, that was an entire mile in length, displaced half a million tons, and cost $100 billion dollars?
My point is: what if somebody sank that ship, so we would not have any aircraft carriers?
This is the law of diminishing returns. In military parlance it is the contest between quality and quantity.
If you have too much of one, you are vulnerable to the other.
This is not to say that ultra high tech is bad, because it isn’t, but if it is all you have, all the enemy has to do is to field a LOT of inexpensive, expendable weapons, and they will likely beat you.
I know that Army combat readiness is about as bad as it was during the Carter years and soldier morale is in the toilet- but we do have rainbow and feminine diversity to tack up the slack.

I have tried to understand the liberal mindset, but just can’t. They are freakin nuts.
With all that is going on in the world, we downsize our military and allow hundreds of thousands into this country unabated. Wow.
If you were a sworn enemy of another and you received intelligence that that country has called it’s border enforcement to stand down, thousands stream across with little opposition...would you get together with you buddies and strategize?
Don’t forget muslim outreach...
I hope the people responsible from drumming that pilot out get killed for lack of proper air cover. /grrrr
There was a very good science fiction short story about a battle between two races. I can’t recall the name.
One race relied on technology. The other wasn’t nearly as advanced, but they had numbers. At the start of the story, the advanced race easily destroyed the perceived lesser race. Each time they lost, the lesser race improved their technology—not nearly as much as the advanced race, but better nonetheless.
The advanced race took longer and longer to tweak their technology ever higher. Because it took so long and was so expensive, they couldn’t produce nearly as many warships as before, but the newer warships were much stronger of course.
In the end, the high tech race was down to one grand ship that possessed nearly supernatural war-fighting technology. Nevertheless, it was overwhelmed and destroyed by sheer numbers of ships that were just good enough to win.
I submit we’re in the same boat as the advanced race. The F-22 is a perfect example. I don’t doubt it’s the best, but we didn’t make enough of them. Not only that, but we’re betting everything on the F-35. Each time we move to the next generation of technology, we take much longer to produce far fewer.

In WW2 the Germans had the best war toys but the Allies had the numbers. Now we are the Germans. Who are the Allies?
Military spending needs to be wise and strategic. Reckless spending has brought down many a mighty empire. Remember the USSR?
Here is a good read about the downfall of the British empire.

We should learn from the failures of others, lest we follow in their footsteps.
