I'm just not sure he is sincere, and I'm convinced the Chamber would never agree with him about "middle-class wages" in any case. Those guys want us pimping out our sisters for beer money, is kinda the way it looks from here. They have always rejected ideas like "living wage" or for that matter, any wage above zero. In fact, I could see their endorsing the concept of negative wages, of requiring workers to "tip out" just to work there (this is common in the restaurant/bar business).
There is no possible case to be made, proceeding from business principles and mathematics alone, for banning slavery. Think about it. Moloch's in the house, y'all.
