The Caliph I suspect is itching for any excuse to do something like that to any State that didn’t vote his way in the last election.
They will be made an example of in order to teach recalcitrant subjects ‘a lesson’.

Hopefully most of the military will not do that and turn on the Feds. Even so, if we accept your premise as a given, hopefully the National Guard and State Police/Highway Patrol (in the case of Texas, the Texas Rangers) would come in to stop or fight the invasion.
