If you like your current Ukraine you can keep it. Period.

Ideally they would be singed, and glow faintly in the dark.

Well he’s probably on safe ground, nobody will think of saying a Russian puppet version of Ukraine should be in NATO although maybe it would make no difference since that might provide Vlad with inside information on NATO.

At this point in the geopolitical situation, one has to wonder why Russia itself would not want to make friends with NATO. Real threats to Russian security can only be seen to the south and southeast. Their long-term strategic concerns are really quite similar to ours. It does them no good to see decline in western Europe since they survive by selling natural gas there.

Putin can’t evolve past his Soviet foundations to see the reality of the modern world, even though he has mastered the outward form of appearing to advance his nation’s interests with shows like the Winter Olympics and the annexation of Crimea.

On the other hand, if NATO would realize that they are backing the wrong side in Syria (as seen before ISIS came along) then there would be less tension between Russia and NATO which might make the other questions easier to grasp.

You are absolutely right. If Putin had any intelligence or strategic mind he would ally with NATO instead of challenging us into a confrontation. He has no experience leading troops into combat or fighting in battle. Putin is stuck in the Cold War. He just cannot accept the defeat of the EVIL EMPIRE he loyally served all his life. He lusts for vengeance. Putin is driven not by his higher faculties but by his most base instincts.

Reminds me of the chicken and the egg problem, which came first. Russia doesn’t want NATO expansion into east because it’s threatening.
Russian neighbours want to be NATO for protection against Russia.

In Ukraine’s case, the argument is BS. Existing NATO bases in Baltics are already closer to Russia than Ukraine.

Seems like he’s the one being pressed against the wall. US meddles in Slavic affairs, make an attempt to snatch the Black Sea naval base from Russia and he is not supposed to react?

When did the US make an attempt to snatch a Black Sea Naval base?

We are now in fact. Sanctions are being imposed until Russia gets out of Ukraine; that includes Crimea to.

Good, Russia lost any lease on that base when they invaded as far as I am concerned. But that can be negotiated if the Russians pull back.

They’ll keep it. The Nazis in Kiev don’t deserve it either.

There was never any attempt to force the Russia from the Black Sea or even from Crimea. Putin did this to stop a trade agreement between the EU and Ukraine which he failed to stop. EU membership was never offered to Ukraine, much less NATO membership. In other words, Putin did this all for nothing. Not a damn thing.

Now that Russia has illegally annexed Crimea, they have lost any right to keep their troops there. As long as Putin was peaceful and an ally of Ukraine, he could have kept his troop there as per agreement with the Ukrainian government. Now that he has invaded Ukraine and illegally occupied their territory, obviously Ukrainians must kill Russians and not stop until all the terrorist Russian occupiers in Ukraine have been sent to Hell. Patriotic Americans will help our Ukrainian allies kill our Russian enemies until the Russians leave Ukraine and retreat back to Russia where they belong. Anybody who gets in our way and sides with Russians against America is our enemy as well and will be treated as such. You have been warned.
