A lot of "Latinos," ie of Cuban and Puerto Rican origin, will not be impressed by hordes of Mexicans crowding the job markets and welfare rolls. Brinkley, as a leftwinger comfortable with identity politics, does not bother to discriminate among these "subgroups."

Reagan and Bush did issue some minor executive orders simply to implement the terms of Simpson-Mazzoli. They did not generate them out of nowhere as Obama is going to do. Big difference.

That is a big issue that gets little coverage; besides taking jobs from black Americans (as well as white), illegals are taking job from legal immigrants (and Hispanic citizens) as well.

Obama had super majority in both cameras during the first two years of his presidency, but he didn’t give the amnesty during his first 100 days as he promised to those living illegally in the country… Furthermore, as senator, Obama opposed George W Bush when the republicans tried to give a legal status to those living illegally in U.S.
