“Discovered”...or RECREATED (with “alterations”) for non-incrimination?

“...had to be backed up on servers and also on tape somewhere.’

From the article:

A Congressional aide revealed on Friday, however, that the Inspector General’s Office has recovered up to 30,000 emails on disaster recovery tapes maintained by the IRS.

I distinctly recall the threads on which we Freepers who are involved in IT were claiming the government regulations REQUIRED that all emails and documents had to be kept on central servers and backed-up on a regular basis. . . and that her emails could not possibly have existed only on her computer and phone. So, sloop, it is quite true. Now, whether these are legitimate or doctored or complete, is another matter.

regulations for who?

if it applied to the government, who would pay any price if it was not done?

pc nerdz think that their exchange servers have a backup so every email server has the same - and its implemented - that is not true - email servers might whine if no backup is taken, but its not required to make the server function

the federal government does require all federal data be backed up to a centralized disaster recovery system - that is probably where this data is being recovered from - that system is NOT under the control of the irs

what is the retention period stated in those regulations?

if you recall, the irs said their ‘backups’ were not retained very long - and since the retention period had expired, the media was reused - that is very possible - probable even

someone then confronted the irs with ‘someone explained about the disaster recovery backups. did you check that backup?’ the answer was no - and it would be ‘hard’ to recover them from the disaster recovery backup - and take a long time

the routine backups are gone - easily believable - no one holds daily backups for decades - its cost prohibitive

the irs might (and SHOULD) have its own disaster recovery plan set up - its not clear if the ig is recovering the data from irs disaster recovery media or from the centralized repository - i suspect its the latter

no real nerd works in a government shop - if you are a nerd, you know why - and since the nerdz in government shops are the dregs of the industry, i am not shocked at the incompetency

an important question to ask is - did the top nerd at the irs explain (or even know about) the disaster recovery media? or did they CAREFULLY choose their words and claim ONLY be speaking to the ‘backups’ - did he deliberately mislead congress or are they just idiots - parsing the ‘is is’ stuff

reasonable administrators would take a backup - but NO ONE can say it HAS to be done

it does not

I suggest you look at the following:

http://www.archives.gov/records-mgmt/email-mgmt.html

That has been recently updated, but the page has links to the previous requirements that would have been in effect during the period in question. The systems they were using would have been backed-up, especially in a sensitive position such as Lois Lerner’s. We know that this was all stone walling and obfuscation.

With this administration and its famous TRANSPARENCY is where we can agree.

i would bet that the ig is getting this from the central repository that is out of the control of the irs

THAT IS A VERY IMPORTANT DETAIL

THAT IS A VERY IMPORTANT DETAIL

That it is. . . but they were backed up and they were kept, and it shows that if they follow the regulations, they cannot hide. They thought they could. . . but we STILL have to see if what has been uncovered is what it purports to be. I am kind of stunned there are 30,000 of them. How long was she in that position? Did she spend 24/7 sending and receiving emails?

the backups were part of a separate central backup system - NOT the irs - it was for recovery of the datacenter in the event of a disaster

seems to me that ANY RESPONSIBLE manager would have their own disaster recovery program as well as daily backups or incremental backups - but if its not done, NO ONE pays a price

if i am not mistaken, the cio of a business can be held PERSONALLY responsible for the information assets - they take it seriously

we don't know exactly what is being searched or the search arguments - only email addressed to or from ignertslut@irs.gov - or ALL email to and from everyone - or if the subject lines are being searched - or the content of the email...

or if the search arguments are ‘lois’ or ‘learner’ or ignert slut’

of if distribution lists are searched

most are probably duplicates - she might have sent to an ‘all hands’ distribution list and that could be 5000 of them

only time will tell

its important to remember that democrap bureaucrapz have been known to use alternate email accounts - such as yahoo (epa anyone?)

and also to remember that the ignert slut was VERY interested in finding a method of communicating that would leave no footprint (instant messaging was of particular interest to her)

hope we get her with these emails - but i suspect the MOST incriminating evidence was done outside her irs email account
