Texas House Republicans Set to Elect NARAL-Favored Candidate for Speaker
Breitbart Texas ^ | November 20th, 2014 | Sarah Rumpf

Posted on 11/22/2014 10:59:19 AM PST by MeatshieldActual

"AUSTIN, Texas -- Speaker of the Texas House Joe Straus (R-San Antonio) is now virtually guaranteed to be victorious in his re-election for Speaker, as thirty five more Republican State Representatives announced this week that they would endorse him. Straus has faced ongoing criticism that he has failed to advance a conservative legislative agenda that reflects the will of the Texas people on a number of key issues, most notably the issue of protecting the unborn. This week's surge of endorsements has fanned the flames of discontent among pro-life advocates that the Texas House under Straus' leadership will once again fail to promote pro-life issues."

The RATS could put Straus up under that scenario

It is sad how many GOPers will vote for the status quo like this.

I don't get it, except that he has too much power on assigning chairmanships.

I'm working to get rid of Straus the next election. That should make that problem go away.

Yep. I expect I'll have a "Give Straus the Boot" ping list in the next few years, assuming I live that long.

There’s a thread about a thug Italian Rep (and I’m a thug Italian) corrupting this whole thing. May take me a while to find the thread, think I pinged you to it.

I don't remember the thread, and I get lots of pings.

It can be uncorrupted and fixed, it just takes time. Dewhurst is gone and the GOP-E didn't get their boy in.

Texas Rep Capriglione Angers Tea Party Group After Expressing Support for Speaker Straus

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3226019/posts

DALLAS, Texas — A Texas State Representative, Giovanni Capriglione (R-Southlake), shocked Tea Party activists in Fort Worth Monday night, November 10, when he declared he would be supporting the current Speaker of the Texas House, Joe Straus, instead of the Tea Party favorite son, State Representative Scott Turner (R-Rockwall). The announcement came during the NE Tarrant Tea Party final meeting of 2014 as a pre-84th Texas legislative session panel discussion on the upcoming race for the Speakership in the Texas House.

Many conservatives and Tea Party leaders across Texas are rallying around Turner. However, in front of over 200 Tarrant County constituents, District 98 Capriglione shocked everyone when he announced he would not support Turner in his bid for the Speaker’s role but would support incumbent Joe Straus (R-San Antonio). Capriglione’s announcement rocked the room, with deafening silence. He explained, “There is no race for Speaker for Scott Turner.”

I have serious doubts about the original poster of that thread. Like everything else that just doesn't smell right, fact checking is in order.

I wasn't at that event, so I have no first-hand knowledge.

Straus is so strongly opposed by the majority of Republicans that he was not able to speak at the 2014 Texas Republican Convention. He would have been booed off the stage. It is incredible that one of the three most powerful politicians in Texas was not able to speak.

At the convention, Turner won the straw poll for speaker 91.5% to Straus’s 6.6%.

It is incredible that Straus is supported by enough RINOs joining with ALL Democrats to be reelected year after year. This is despite having 98 Republicans to 52 Democrats in the House. Again, RINOs joining Democrats are able to thwart the elected conservative majority. Straus is the Harry Reid of Texas in that he is able to block conservative legislation coming from the Senate.

I was just going to post that. Capriglione turned around right after getting elected with the help of the Tea Party. He will be a single term rep.
