Immigration Revamp Is ‘Combustible,’ Hickenlooper Says

The political fight over President Barack Obama’s immigration plan is playing out in Colorado, too, where Gov. John Hickenlooper called it “very controversial.”

The governor said the issue is “combustible” and suggested citizenship isn’t a priority.

“What I was suggesting was let’s maybe wait two or three years before we get into a discussion about the pathway to citizenship. That seems to be the block. But let’s go ahead with securing the border, getting an ID system,” Hickenlooper said.

On Thursday, Obama announced in a presidential address a plan that would allow approximately 5 million illegal immigrants living in the United States to stay, if they met certain requirements like having children who live in the country legally. About 64,000 in Colorado will be affected.

Colorado’s attorney general, John Suthers, is reviewing whether he has legal standing in immigration matters, while other states’ attorneys general threaten lawsuits. Republican leaders said Obama’s proposal is illegal and smacks of presidential overreach.

But Democrats like Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet said Republicans’ criticism about going it alone is hypocritical.

“Great, in that case, put a bill on the floor of the House of Representatives and pass it,” Bennet said, referring to the GOP’s reluctance to float immigration-reform legislation in the U.S. House.

Bennet is part of a bipartisan group that passed a reform bill last year in the Senate that the House refused to consider. But he said he Obama’s actions could make it harder to move legislatively on immigration in the next two years.

“I think it could make it more difficult,” he said, “and I think that we live in environment (in Washington) where there are people whose stock in trade is trying to look for excuses to make things more difficult.”

None of Colorado’s Republican congressional representatives were available for comment on Friday.

"Combustable"

Kind of like what happens to a person who comes in extended contact with "the third rail?"

I believe the House has already passed several immigration bills that Reid blocked. Let the Senate vote on one of those.

“R now seems to mean ‘rollover’”

Don’t forget, we have to keep telling ourselves over and over, “the Republican do not takeover the Senate until after the first of the year.”

THEN after the new Republican led Senate is sworn in, we will have to come up with something else to keep telling ourselves over and over.

Just like the creeping lies of Gruber and Obamacare.

Two years from now all illegals in this country will have a short pathway to citizenship. Just don't tell the American people now what will happen. We'll start small. Call it a small amnesty with only 5 million illegals and no pathway to citizenship. The stupid American people will put up with that.

Then 2 years from now, after this unconstitutional precedent has been set on a small scale amnesty, we will give an unconstitutional full blown amnesty for all 25 million, with a short pathway to citizenship.

Bam. Ballgame over.

Joe, Round 1 goes to Obama on points. Absolute PR Triumph.

First: He did NOT, Not I say, issue an EO.

Second: What he has done is adroitly stampeded the present House and Senate now in Lame Duck Session.

Third: Since no one was being deported to begin with, his order to not deport anyone is for all practical purposes, meaningless.

Fourth: As the executive, any orders he gives to immigration agencies are legal. He has NOT ordered them to break the law. He has not created new laws.

Fifth: This is smoke and mirrors. Sound and Fury signifying nothing. Nothing has changed from before the "speech" or after. He has succeeded in making the "Republicans" look like absolute nitwits by pulling their tightie whities into a perfect wedgie while doing precisely nothing. Quite brilliant, actually. That Gruber is worth every penny the Democrats pay him..

And, while waiting patiently, remember TO NOT PANIC OR BE STAMPEDED OR SEE IMAGINARY HORRORS.

Obama and the ‘RATS are in a VERY poor position and they know it. Let’s make sure that constitutional conservatives don’t forget it.

Sure. And Obama told us in his first Obamacare speech that we could keep our doctors, and keep our old insurance plans.

That Gruber is worth every penny the Democrats pay him..

I don't think you see the real Gruber/Obama con game.

Why is Sen. Bennett criticizing Obama like this?

I agree. This is Kabuki orchestrated by Obama and the Chamber of Commerce R’s. Create a crisis that the R’s can stomp their feet about and then reach a grand compromise that will grant amnesty and the border will be sealed. But as usual, their fingers will be crossed about the border.

I don't think you see the real Gruber/Obama con game.

Sure I do. And, a well run game it is, too. Team Obama has bluffed an all-too-willing GOPe out of its sox, and at the same time, given them ample cover for doing absolutely nothing save a bit of pro-forma posturing. Talk to me around Feb15.

Watching the Gruber/Obama con game succeed doesn't mean that I approve of, or like it. But it does remind one of the Green Bay Packers scrimmaging with your local Pop Warner team.

The "Republicans," (Whatever TF that means nowadays) have never, IMNVHO, done a very good job with communications. At the same time they have done an excellent job in sharing the swag with their colleagues across the aisle, trading any significant say in the way the country is run in exchange for safe seats, and many, many millions. The true GOPe mission, accomplished with the help of the Democrats who humor them and keep them as a pro-forma "opposition:" make the world of scary federal agencies safer for for the very well heeled donor.

Maybe we don't appreciate who's running the real con game in DC. It might just be the GOPe.

Hey thanks for that! Using my own method of panic-stricken logorrhea, that's what I actually was trying to say.... I think.

Then 2 years from now...

That is the game plan. Right before he leaves office. Another in-your-face by President Spite.
