During WWII most of your Scandinavia countries ran their cars, trucks, buses off of wood gas from a process called gassification, yes it’s true, a car can be run off of wood.

Thanks! Wood gas was used here in the States, too. There are some pictures of old wood gassers and newer projects around the Net. There are even some tutorials on how to build small units that produce wood gas. I've been planning to build one for a generator, when time allows.
