AKRON, Ohio — An Akron police officer shot a man threatening to kill a woman while holding two knives to her throat.

Earion R. Feaster, 31, of Akron, faces charges of felonious assault, abduction and domestic violence in Akron Municipal Court. He is booked into the Summit County Jail.

The officer, a 7-year police veteran, is on paid administrative leave while the shooting is investigated, which is the department's policy for an officer-involved shooting.

Akron police were called about 10 p.m. to the home in the 200 block of East North Street for a report of a domestic dispute.

Dispatchers relayed information to the officers responding to the call that a man was hitting a woman and threatening to kill her. The caller also told police the man said he would shoot the police officers.

Two small children and the woman's mother were inside the home at the time, according to police.

Officers were let into the home and found Feaster holding two knives to the woman's throat, police said. Feaster refused several police commands to drop his knives, police said.

The officer then fired multiple shots at Feaster, striking him once in the right leg. Feaster then dropped the knives and police gave first aid to the wound, police said.

Feaster was taken to Akron General Medical Center for treatment. His injuries do not appear to be life threatening, according to police.

The woman, her mother and the children were uninjured, police said.

Couple that with how the perp may have been positioned I’d say he did a fine job. The situation dictates the response. Concur.

“It sounds like another case of excessive police violence against a young black man.”....

No, it sounds like those police officers need more range time and while their on “paid administrative leave”, it should be mandatory for both of them.
