The federal government is on the brink of lifting restrictions put in place more than three decades ago when regulators, alarmed by the spread of the virus that causes AIDS, barred men who had sex with other men from donating blood.
A Food and Drug Administration advisory panel will begin a two-day meeting on the issue Tuesday, amid growing calls from medical groups, gay rights activists and lawmakers to jettison the ban as outdated and discriminatory.

Western Civilization chooses suicide rather than be accused of being intolerant.
The new Idol of the West: "Tolerance".
A "tolerance" that leads to misery and destruction and a "tolerance" that won't tolerate Christianity. Just great.
Psalm 9:17 The wicked will be turned into hell, and the nations that forget God.
Bastards all!
They just lie on the questionnaire and donate anyway. I have worked in places where gay men have participated in company blood drives.
Yep you’re correct. It’s stayed in the high risk group (homosexual men and IV drug users) mostly.
The only way to protect ourselves re blood transfusions if this is lifted is to make sure we donate or have donated blood from family/friends.
I will pass, I am not that thirsty
And once again the media is complicit. The Media is destroying our culture and country.
Why were you banned from donating blood? Why were vets singled out? Thanks.
Time for me to revisit the Blood Bank to see if they will take my O+, malaria & hepatitis (I don’t think the Dengue fever is transferable) tainted blood.
After all, I don’t want to feel discriminated against!

Remind me not to need blood.
“I’VE GOT IT, I HAD IT, BUT FOR SOME TIME IT WAS UNDETECTABLE.”
-Everyone with AIDS
This from the Australian Red Cross. When I had my back operation my surgeon insisted that it was wise to store and use my own blood!
2. Why is this policy necessary if all blood donations are
tested?
The Blood Service has a responsibility to assure the safety of the blood supplied to hospitals. Although all blood donations are tested for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV),syphilis and human T-lymphotropic virus (HTLV), there is a period after a person contracts an infection known as the window period when tests cant detect these viruses in the blood. This rigorous approach is essential in maintaining a good safety record.Since the introduction of testing for HIV in 1985, there has been one case of transmission of the virus to a patient through blood from a donor in thewindow period. Although the risk of such transmission is low, we work on the basis that any transmission is one too many.
3. Isnt this policy outdated, given the work which has
been done to promote safe sex among gay men?
While campaigns have certainly done a great deal to promote safer sex, there is still no such thing as 100% safe sex. Factors such as condom breakage and slippage can contribute to the risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases. Decisions about who can give blood are made
using up-to-date evidence based on patterns of disease in the Australian population.
pure insanity
Brought to you by the same govt. knotheads who have lied about everything regarding Obamacare, Ebola, diseases imported by illegal aliens, etc. Bunch of leftists assholes who want heteros infected with HIV / AIDS, courtesy of bone smugglers such as Bathhouse Barry.
Why?
We don't want hepatitis....and all those other diseases.
A few years back, I recall the acronym STD being changed to STI, sexually transmitted INFECTIONS, because DISEASE is just too harsh a word. The homosexualists already changed AIDS to HIV, which is nothing less that stage 1 AIDS. What else can one do but say “check please”?
It’s like deliberately bring Ebola into the states, or the disease ridden illegal aliens.
“Overwhelm the system”.
Now it's been changed to "pre-existing conditions">
Set the homo blood aside for the LGBTLSMFT crowd and congress only.
Really?
Out of step?
