Sen. Ted Cruzs ambitions are clear. Hes a frequent visitor to Iowa and New Hampshire. Hes building a campaign staff.
But to make a serious White House bid takes serious money at least $20 million by the time the first ballots are cast in early 2016. And that could be a challenge.
Although the Texas Republican is popular at conservative gatherings, Cruz has shown only modest success as a fundraiser. Like Ron Paul and Sarah Palin, he can probably count on showers of cash from enthusiastic legions of small-dollar donors, and thats an important start.
But many major GOP donors and bundlers want nothing to do with a tea party agitator particularly business interests dismayed by the federal-spending brinkmanship Cruz has advocated. That could limit his ability to elbow aside well-funded rivals....

The News is in the Bush camp.
My wife and I will both donate the max, it’s either $2,600 or $2,700 for the upcoming cycle. We will donate that in the primary, and in the general.
I will raise $1 million for the primaries and $1 million for the general and try to do $100,000 for the PAC. Remember how short a period Fred was in the race back in 2008? I did over $40,000.
BTW, thank you!
Money is way overrated. Spend $1 Billion to try to get me to vote liberal and you waste a billion bucks to no positive end.
Cruz or any other conservative does indeed need cash. But not to the level the MSM increasingly promotes year after increasing year. What they need most of is a base that isn’t gonna turn tail and run AGAIN when the RINO wing starts screaming AGAIN.
Principles matter. They get people elected when they are adhered to en masse.
Senator Cruz will be getting whatever I can spare if he decides to run.
I still have my Fred hat.
(Wonder if I can reverse mortgage it now?)
He has to feed his family same as the rest of us.
Ask Jesse....(Sorry)!
Good they’ll spend all their time attacking Cruz (who can take it), and West will swoop in and take the reigns. I keep saying it, but Cruz needs to be Senate Majority leader to a West presidency.
I’m not a Cruz supporter, nor a supporter of anyone else at this time.
But the article is nonsense. No prominent Republican from Texas is going to lack money. Shoot, Texans alone could easily finance such a campaign.
A) Cruz has already stated that he doesn’t want to be Majority Leader, (B) West only has one 2 year term as a congressman under his belt (don’t pull-out “he was in the Army” on me, so was I and a million other guys) and (C) we won’t see another black president for at least one or two generations, that’s how bad BHO has messed up.
Of course they are. They want the two parties of Big Government (both the Republican and Democrat wings) to be the only options for the American voter.
I hadn't heard that Cruz doesn't want to be majority leader, but he sure acts as though he does; he's the only conservative leader there!
As far as West only being a one term Congressman, he was of course gerrymandered out of his district, but aside from that I'd take a career military officer over a lawyer/career politician any day of the week.
West's career in the military indicates to me his devotion to serving his country and every time I've heard him speak he gave me no doubt that he's someone who'd defend The Constitution. I never got that impression from Colin Powell.
And here’s a thought regarding experimental elections: How about we never elect another godless commie for president.
