Amnesty is a distraction and always has been.

Every two years amnesty becomes a big fight while the border is completely ignored. The end result is absolutely nothing happening while illegals continue to pour across the border.

It doesn’t matter if we give illegals amnesty or not if the border is wide open. They just give themselves amnesty by walking in at will.

Its time to stop the bleeding and then we can worry about the infection it causes.

Yours is a point of view I have not considered.

You are absolutely right.

If George Bush (and the republicans) had kept his promise to build a fence and shut down illegal border crossings the nature of the debate today would be entirely different.

Instead attention and money were intentionally diverted from a solid concrete fence to the failed "Virtual Fence" technology.

And when the adminitration's time was up and the money was spent the border remained open, handing Barack Obama a still festering sore he could exploit.

Amnesty matters a lot. Once you legalize the lawbreakers' status, they become entitled to all kinds of rights and benefits, including eventually the right to vote. Heritage estimates that an amnesty of the estimated 12 million lawbreakers would cost $6.3 trillion.

You’re absolutely right.

The refusal of politicians to deport foreign nationals is defacto amnesty. All the rest is kabuki theater.
