And to answer your question, yes, I heard the businesses were protesting that the man was selling “loosies” (single cigs) on the street to avoid the taxes that the businesses were having to pay.

You could make quite a profit, actually, if you undercut the tax and still kept the remaining margin.

Unless Garner was going out of state or stealing the packs of cigarettes he paid the tax for them.
If so then are cigarettes going to be treated the same as money and taxed every time they change hands?

A pack of cigarettes is like $15 on NYC. A quick drive over the bridge toNJ and over to PA or Delaware, you can get them for $5.50 to $6.00 a pack.

Sell a loosie for $1.00 each and you make $20/pk - $5.50/pk cost even if we add in bridge toll and fuel costs to $6.50 a pack he’s still making a killing on the loosies.

Enter the business owners, and then the police.

This can and should be laid directly at the feet of the democRATS that run the NY City Council.
