I’m guessing, but I wonder if this was a mission they dreaded having to risk but had to, because they assumed it was better than nothing since he was going to die anyway.

They had already tried a mission a few weeks ago and the bad guys might have been too prepared for there to be much of a chance of him coming out alive, I hope that the rescuers didn’t suffer casualties.

The White House doubled down today to bat back the idea that dithering at the highest levels delayed an ultimately unsuccessful military operation to rescue American al Qaeda hostage Luke Somers in Yemen last week.

“There are still some significant limits to what I can say about what is still a classified operation, but I would reject in the strongest possible terms that there was any delay at the White House in approving his mission,” White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters.

The news is NOT that hostages died. The news IS that TEN militants were killed. Sad that the hostages died, but were I a hostage, I would be so HAPPY that my death was worthwhile, that I died for my country and that the psycho-Islamists who held me also died. 10:2 kill ratio is not bad.
