I followed most of the article, but I don’t see how this statement belongs in context. Does he mean that I am somehow personally responsible for the state the situation got in - starting before I was even born?

I am not racist and most people I know are not. Most people I know are very generous, too, regardless of skin color. You can only help other people so much. The rest is up to them.

It’s our government that has got to stop the “kindness” of permanent welfare because that’s the real cruelty. When necessities are provided for people, they can get into all kinds of mischief with the time they would otherwise spend earning those necessities.

From a Christian perspective, yes. We are called to love one another. From a policy making perspective, no. Government is established to maintain order and public safety, not the brotherhood of man.
