Tomasky Trashes The South: 'Reactionary', 'Fetid', 'Nuclear Waste Site' of Racial Resentment
newsbusters.org ^ | 12-8-2014 | Mark Finkelstein

Michael Tomasky is not content to argue, in the wake of Mary Landrieu's defeat, that Democrats should write off the South as politically unfriendly territory.  In his Daily Beast item of today, Tomasky goes to great lengths to trash the region in the ugliest of terms.

"Reactionary, prejudice-infested, fetid, reject[ing] nearly everything that’s good about this country, just one big nuclear waste site of choleric, and extremely racialized, resentment," is how Tomasky slurs most of the South, saying "almost the entire region" is as he describes it.

Remind us now, Michael: just who's "choleric?" Tomasky then has the temerity to shed a crocodile tear, lamenting that his utter contempt for the South is "made even sadder because on the whole they’re such nice people! (I truly mean that.)"

Toward the end of his column, Tomasky even seems to favor secession, calling the South "[a] different country. And maybe someday it really should be. I’ll save that for another column."

Michael Tomasky, champion of the New Confederacy?  Who knew?

Sarc, right? Didn’t check your “pedigree”.

Caligatrux is correct.. it is cultural, and to the extent the internal problems of different races are “the white man’s burden”- they need to stop being any statists burden, white or otherwise. The race card is the one played by the agents of the gubmint plantation. The ones who could not invent something or make something or... produce anything from their own work. That is to say— politicians and thieves.

This has been discussed and beaten to death since before Truman.

Every black person I know, who has lived in both the north and the south, has stated vehemently that racism is MUCH MORE PREVALENT in the NORTH!

Phrases like “why don’t you go home (to the south)”, and “isn’t it too cold for you”, and straight-up “you don’t belong here” are still used in the north TODAY!

In the south, we welcome all, except dumba$$ liberals and lazy gimmedats (regardless of color), you people should stay the hell out!

Oh yeah— WV.... where the name and title “redneck” began. How many of these little aholes know anything about that.

That the coal mine wars were wars on “rednecks” who id’d themselves with red bandanas. Miners— of many different ethnic backgrounds, and including blacks. About which he could take a look at “Matewan” the movie. A true story.

These libs have nothing to contribute but their tut-tutting professional agitation writing and whining.

"reject[ing] nearly everything that’s good about this country"

Like what? Rap music? Crappy public schools? Abortion? Gay marriage? Porous borders?

I think you're right. When I was growing up in NJ back in the 50s and 60s, I can recall being at my cousin's house when his father's children from an earlier marriage would visit. They lived in Maryland. They were the meanest, most racist kids (and family, for that matter) I have ever known. My Aunt and Uncle lived next door to a black family who were the kindest, gentlest people you'd want to know, and they were the subject of the cruelest racist taunts from these kids from Maryland. Unbelievable.

I think the difference is saying, as Caligatrux did, that all black people are the same and only black people exemplify thse problems. In other words that you can make solid conclusions about a person’s character based entirely and exclusively on his skin color. This I think is the very definition of racism. What else could it be?

The liberal states should secede if they don’t like being part of America.

Note that the recent iconic racially charged incidents (Ferguson, NYC) as well as the Rodney King one (Calif), have occured not in the south but in cities and states run by DEMOCRATS???

The columnist obviously is seceding from reality.

Numbnuts doesn’t know Louisiana much.

Together with Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arizona (also southern Colorado) there is an ever growing population of multiracial families. With just about every combination of ethnicity one could come up with in the mix. I was engaged to a girl from Lafayette who was Black, French, Mexican, and Brazilian.

It’s not that there is no racism, but that the melting pot is working to erase racial groupings outside of died in the wool angry racial enclaves.

Maybe bigoted, but not racist. No, it was cultural. Pure and simple. And gangnam and the “burn baby burn” and the rap culture and the destructive anti-family perpetuation of the 60’s democrap lib victimhood identity movement and black liberation theology- that was the basis.

It isn’t racist to identify unique cultural behavioural markers that are derailers, or to express the desire not to have this carry over into other communities. You know, like being beaten to death because you are a white.... Bosnian in St. Louis. Identifying common cultural “norms” that our leader in chief has said are “to be expected” and therefore “OK” is not racist. It is diagnostic. Our prez wants it to be eliminated, along with our Republic of E Pluribus Unum.

BTW, Caligatrux said “Democrats” and “regardless of color”. They didn’t say a thing about being the same color— you have that wrong. Resist the temptation for jerking knees.

But then we have the Just Us Dept. asking Ferguson “protestors” if they know the signs of “white privilege”— you know, to help them better understand their “victimhood” and perpetuate liberation theology. BTW also, the majority of rioters in the ‘hood of Ferguson were of a specific race-— the same one our Just us dept. is trying to enflame with this very “cultural” bigotry and racism of their own, and class warfare that is id’d to race warfare.
That being part of the old Comintern playcard to divide the US, using the tools of hate. The lib commie demonstrators stayed in the coffeeshops of liberal St. Louis, and were largely.... white libs. How appropriate. And now the marxist target is... all police forces and individuals. Because this isn’t about race— it is about marxism and totalitarian statism.

Tomasky, unfortunately for him, is a political obsessive.
Many such obsessives make a career out of it, which is natural.
This is a fault of many in politics (in his case he is rather like a football color commentator, or perhaps a very intense fan of a certain team). There seem to be more liberal/leftist political obsessives than conservative ones, but we have our share. In this case he is frustrated by the refusal of the South to cooperate with his political desires. Since he has no proper life outside politics everything is about whether it is open to his political ambitions, or in his case, second hand ambitions. People like this should try to “get a life”, if only to avoid embarrassing themselves, as in this case.

But the New World Order and gubmint plantation, requires this racial divide.... else there could not be one member of this multiracial society who could come and join their country club. You have it just right- numbnuts is a white racist from WV coal country, who escaped with his liberal commie upbringing to whine about the South. Typical.

Gee whiz, I recently spent about two weeks in the deep South, and all the Southerners I met were very nice, friendly people. Plus, I didn’t see any nuclear waste piles anywhere.

“Reactionary, prejudice-infested, fetid, reject[ing] nearly everything that’s good about this country, just one big nuclear waste site of choleric, and extremely racialized, resentment,”

Do I smell a sore loser?

Anyway, we are rejoicing in the fact that we finally rid ourselves of a liberal obama tool that we warned about voting for obamacare. Of course, people like Landrieu and Tomasky think we are stoopid - not so, we patiently waited until 2014 to oust a lazy, inept, egomanic, liberal who ultimately hurt Louisiana and the country.

Tomasky seems to be a good example of what excessive drug use can do to one and could use a few anger management courses. As far as insulting the South - he needs to get in line we are used to being insulted and underated. We are Southerners and we are not apologizing for anything.

“reject[ing] nearly everything that’s good about this country,” does he mean we reject the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence and all our ancestors fought for - I think now. It is people like him that are ruining our country not us.

Sorry, I am just sick and tired of hearing left, communist leaning idiots spouting off about the South.

And lastly in my book of thoughts, adieu, Landrieu - don’t let the door hit you on your way out.
