Beautiful words.
Great post. Everyone knows it’s traumatic for the woman and to then find out you’re pregnant after such a reprehensible act only compounds the issue. I am most struck by her husband’s response.
I can say that my ex-husband would not have responded in such a devoted, caring manner. For some men, it’s difficult enough if you have to adopt which is a choice you are actively making; however, to accept this innocent child who was conceived under such circumstances...THAT is unconditional love.
Stories like this give me some hope for humankind.
I remember a family who was profiled in Christianity Today who had conceived the middle of five or six children via rape. The child was obviously other race and the family always got questions about adoption.
The statement that slayed me in the article was when the husband said to the wife when she found that she was pregnant: This baby is part of you and I could never reject anything that wasn’t part of you.
I just love the reaction of the husband. He wanted to keep the baby from the moment he heard his wife was pregnant. What an amazing couple!
I have had this discussion with my daughter, even though she was tricked to vote for BO, she told me that her and majority of her friends, they are all 29 or so, will not get an abortion even in the case of rape. When she told me that I was surprised, she exclaimed,” it is not the baby’s fault, why should it die?”
I remember reading an article from Focus on the Family years ago about making the case for not getting an abortion even in cases of rape and incest. One of the reasons for keeping the baby is it helps with the healing of the rape, seems to have worked for this couple.
God bless this couple.
My mother told me one time and I never forgot it- We may not plan for every Life, but Life is always God’s plan.
You did good.
