David Hooks was shot in the back and head as he was lying face down on the floor during a drug raid by Laurens County deputies.

That's according to the lawyer representing his family.

It's been nearly four months since David Hooks was shot to death during a drug raid at his East Dublin home.

13WMAZ's Paula Rotondo spoke to his wife, Teresa Hooks and the family's lawyer, Mitchell Shook.

Hooks died Sept. 24 while deputies served a search warrant at his home.

They were looking for drugs, but didn't find any.

“There are good cops and then there are bad cops.”

Oh yeah? When’s the last time a good cop did his job and ratted out the bad cops? Serpico?

Yes I do and that makes my point.

Any chief that allows that kind of training in the general force should be canned.

Departments should have only a very small group of men trained in SWAT and they should be brought into action only after a special set of conditions are met and then before launch the chief should personally be required to sign off on the action.

And held responsible for the results.

The Jackboot Defense Squad should be along soon.

"Well, he shouldn't have resisted!"

"They had drugs. They just flushed them in time."

"Gotta break a few eggs to make an omlet."

And the right sort of chief would get rid of the rambos.

Unfortunately these days the police are there to “protect and serve” the STATE and then themselves. The average citizen has no place in that formula. There is an “us vs. them” attitude that is pervasive. All one needs to do is look at how the view us...as “civilians” not as their fellow citizens.

The presumption is that everyone has an UZI, AK or AR with Full Auto capability. The do a no-knock raid and you go for your weapon to protect yourself from invaders and then someone shouts “GUN” and you die in a hail of bullets.

over and over, this keeps happening, down to petty disputes over zoning ordinances.

It happens a lot. You just don't hear about or don't care to do enough research. In fact good cops often try to get rid of bad cops before they ever become a problem. However, rank and file cops don't get to decide who gets fired, politically correct Chiefs and administrators do.

You guys have got it all wrong. This will come in as perfect practice for the upcoming national roundups of Jews, whites, blacks, and people of all races. Look for odd or strange unsolved jewelry and other retail store break ins. Cops' Crystal Night will follow not long after that.

I have to laugh when I hear them talk about ‘civilians’ as though they’re a separate class. Who do they think thy are? They’re civilians unless they’ve secretly become military.

The city or county should be held responsible and the officers involved who planned it and those who executed it should be held criminally and individually civilly responsible for their actions. No murder one here but definitely manslaughter at the least I would think on the officers part.

With maps, 911, GPS and the internet there is no reason they can give I would accept for going to the wrong address, that is just either incompetence or laziness on a grand scale.

And really what would any of these officers have done if they were at home with their wife and family late at night and she said honey there is a vehicle in the driveway with the lights out and people in black heading around the house? They would have picked up their weapon and defended their family. My God are they that stupid or that detached in their us vs. them mind set. What would any sane person do with such an attack coming down on their house.

This was not a case of the Swat Team going to the wrong address. David Hook’s truck (article says SUV, but I heard a truck) and a number of guns were stolen from his house the day before and reported to the sheriff. They caught the guy who did it, a known bad guy, who explained that the drugs were in the truck when he stole it (or in another car at the house and he stole the drugs from the other car).

In any event, on the bad guy’s word, the county launched a raid the next night and killed Hooks. My sources told me that he was a nice, well respected, building contractor and farmer. This could happen to any of us.

What about police unions? Are they just potted plants?

The drug search was a ruse; this was a mob hit.

This man was into something of which his family was unaware.
