Backers: Romney more open to 2016 run
Politico ^ | December 12, 2014 | Ben White and Maggie Haberman

For most of the past year, Mitt Romney supporters have publicly said he should consider running again. And for most of the past year, Romney has seemed uninterested. Until recently. While some people close to Romney insist he hasn’t moved from saying he has no plans to run, the 2012 Republican nominee has sounded at least open to the idea in recent conversations, according to more than a dozen people who’ve spoken with him in the past month. In his private musings, Romney has sounded less than upbeat about most of the potential candidates in the 2016 Republican field, according to the people who’ve spoken with him, all of whom asked for anonymity in order to speak freely.

On the bright from the article it appears we might have a RINO herd for 2016. Romney seems to think he is better than Dauphin Bush and won't kowtow to the Dauphin.

My fantasy is the RINO’s duke it out in a 3 way between Romney, Bush, and Christie, while we consolidate behind Ted. (Or Sarah)

Exactly, the more the merrier, however, I wish that Romney stays out because his money scares the rest of them.

Good. Let Romney split Christie and Rand Paul.

I’ll vote Cruz.

One of Romney’s big advantages is that many of the things he said during the last campaign and during debates have proven to be true. That gives him a ton of credibility.

If he runs it is over. No one on the right is going to show up and vote for the GOP again. Hillary will be edged aside by more radical Democrats, and the country will march into Socialism.

The GOP will end up with Romney or Jeb or some other milquetoast liberal Republican as its candidate because of all the Dems that vote in the early open Republican primaries, and the fact that the GOP hates conservatives.

I like that.

Romney, Bush, or Christie in the White House is like BONER as Speaker.

We all know in our heart of hearts Mitt is going to run. He thinks and probably rightly so that he got robbed in 2012. He wants another bite at the apple.

The Republican’s answer to Adlai Stevenson.

That would be Harold Stassen, which Romney would become if he were to run again.

Romney still has the ignorant haters and should not run. He would have been a great President but the real problem is so many Republicans that never understood him. Bias is the death of the Republican chance in 2016 and it won’t matter who wins the primary because of these child like voters that just won’t vote if they can’t have it their way. What is the good of America, a perfect human being? I think this is a sickness isn’t it?

My grandfather gave me a book of speeches by Adlai Stevenson. He was considered quite progressive, or “pinko” at the time.

That stuff reads like what you’d hear from a middle-of-the-road Republican today. That’s how far to the left the country has shifted.

He believes in the clap trap called Mormonism, he has zero credibility.

Alright, I voted for Romney in '12. And preferred him over McCain in '08.

That said, I understand why many conservatives couldn't vote for him.

Romney was a deeply flawed candidate. In the first place, his candidacy made it impossible to run against Obamacare -- the most powerful single issue the Republicans had.

Secondly, even though Romney said all the right things, there was real reason to distrust him -- based on his prior actions and statements.

Third, while Romney certainly appears to be a genuinely good man, he's far from a genuine conservative. He often gave the impression that the real meaning of the word escaped him (i.e., "severely conservative").

Subsequently, it seems to me that, while Romney certainly would've been better for the country than Zero, we didn't miss much. Since losing the election, Romney has reverted to what has proven to be his core "moderation" -- much of which reflects liberal political values.

I.e., you're not going to effectively make a pro-Romney case to the FReepers who failed to support Romney in 2012. There is no way they'll support him in 2016, either.
