Me too. I guess I better start an “I’m Offended” piggy bank.
If it is a store that I am familiar with I will direct the person who asked in the right direction. I have also learned to never, ever wear red and khaki when shopping at Target.

‘I thought that shopping at Brooks Brothers would help soothe my pain, and that finding the right shirt or blazer would be good for my soul. Fortunately, nobody eyeballed me, followed me around or mistook me for the help. Things were looking promising as I made my way past tables of neatly folded cashmere cardigans and satin deco scarves. But then, I stumbled across a display with a small decorative bale of cotton stalks. In that instant, Brooks Brothers went from being a place for therapeutic shopping to a hostile environment. WTF? I thought to myself.’
What a shallow little twit.

Anyway, I went there wearing a business suit. I was asked by no fewer than 5 people where things were located in the store. They all assumed that the only person who would be wearing a suit in the hillbilly Wal Mart was the store manager. You reading a book? Why? Is there a test or something?

If you’re not “black” (or “black enough”, however that is defined) your very existence in the presence of a black racist is “microagression”.

Carried at Lowe's Hardware.Ah, well, so the 1%-ers wouldn't find it on the perfume counter next to the $500/oz Clive Christian.

After being fed a steady stream of knockout-game stories and such, I’m glad this unassimilated creature is miserable.
Does anyone imagine anything will ever look up for her?

Having spent the last 5 minutes (shudder...) looking at photos of people of walmart, I have to ask, are you SURE you didn't work there?

1%-ers wouldn't find it on the perfume counter Unlikely. But neither will it be carried at the local bait store, next to the EZ-Cheeze and behind the worm cooler. :-)
Looked like a good "premium brand" designed to take money from people who have too much of it.
I dunno. The dollar store stuff, along with some elbow grease, cleans the floors pretty well for me. :-)

White shoppers, especially White women in their mid-to-late 50s and up often assume Im there to serve them:
Khaki pants are often part of the stores uniform, and for men , a tie.
Many a time I have been wearing a white or royal blue dress shirt, khaki pants, and dress shoes, and have been asked for help by those same 50+ year old women at the Comp*USA, Best Buy, or specialty big box store.
And I probably buy a lot less stuff.

The part about being offended by a display of raw cotton and cotton plants was a new one to me. Should the Irish be offended by the sight of potatoes because their starving ancestors were forced to turn over their eager crop to the British?
