Pope Francis says all dogs do go to heaven

We've all heard the expression "all dogs go to heaven." On Wednesday, the spiritual leader of 1.2 billion people around the world gave it his imprimatur.

During his weekly address in the Vatican on Wednesday, Pope Francis was consoling a little boy who had recently lost his dog, assuring the boy that he and his furry friend would reunite in heaven.

“One day, we will see our animals again in the eternity of Christ. Paradise is open to all of God’s creatures,” the pontiff said, according to Italian news sources.

And unicorns have skittles rain down out of their rainbows.

Let's see a dog top that.

But I feel sorry for some of them.

Their owners can be such shameful beasts, doing things not even a cat would do, much less a dog (sorry, cat people) that they've taken to wearing disguises while in public.

Thank you for your very clear missive. May I add a thought? ...

To speak a language with the mouth requires certain physical capabilities, most of which are not found in the other animals on the planet. Thus it is likely that the praise will be ascending from the mind of the creature. I have concluded that Balaam's donkey spoken in Balaam's mind, and that God 'touched' Balaam's mind to hear and comprehend the thoughts of his donkey. It is a sure thing that the donkey was 'seeing' more than Balaam was seeing, until the Angel revealed to Balaam. I have extended this notion to the Garden scene and Eve 'hearing' in her mind the thoughts of the serpent. Could it be that animals, and in particular our beloved animal companions 'hear' in their mind the thoughts of love we have toward them? Our lack of being able to do this 'hearing' may well be a protection for us, so that we remain in a faith-needing regimen until The Lord Translates us to our new bodies/souls.

do all people who lived and died before Christ are in hell?

If I understand your question properly, Are all people, who lived and died before Christ, in Hell?

Technically, yes,..in HADES, not in the third heaven, until after the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. They are not in the Lake of Fire, until after the Great White Judgment.

Let's clear up a couple of meanings. First, Christ is eternal, existing from before eternity past through eternity future.

Secondly, the word used in Scripture is HADES, or the Greek for the underworld. There are 4 known compartments in HADES: Paradise Lost (also known as Abraham's Bosom, where believers went after death, prior to the Resurrection of Christ), The Torments (where unbelievers are sent prior to the future Great White Throne Judgment), TARTARUS (a prison for the fallen angels of Gen 6, Jude 6, 1Pet3, 2Pet2:4 ; and The Abyss (where certain criminal fallen angels have been confined until the middle of the Tribulation, Luke 8:2, Rev 9:1-3,11).

The Lake of Fire is a destination in the future made for fallen angels (Matt 25:41), while those who are found in the Book of Life or other books by their Works will be saved. Those not found will be cast into the Lake of Fire.

To say it’s a metaphor is not good enough. It merely dumbs things down to secular thinking level. No Christian should be thinking that way or even using that phraseology.

It was the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Unless we refer to it in that way we don’t communicate the proper message.

I didn’t say God can’t do that. I am saying there is no biblical support for that position. That is a big difference. When man goes outside of God’s Word, he starts to construct a new religion based on man’s wisdom.

Name calling has no place in civil discussion, nor on this page. If you are not mature enough to handle it, then refrain from posting.

There is no doubt animals, particularly dogs, form bonds with their masters. That is a marvel of creation allowing us to praise God. But your position is an emotional argument without any Scripture to support the pope’s position.

I have one now who in her younger years would get off the bed every hour to make her rounds around the yard. It took me a while to get used to the constant up and down all night. Now it barely wakes me.

Older now (14) she just stirs, looks out the window, and barks at what ever woke her up, be it cat, raccoon, possum, or skunk. Her sister, and litter mate, isn’t as vigilant or vocal, but is always there it back her sister up.

German Shorthaired Pointers.....a very good breed.....I’ve had 3 pairs of them and it looks like I’ll be getting a 4th brace. They travel to Rainbow Bridge sometime just before their 15th birthday.....

Now your links says:

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story wrongly suggested that Pope Francis said animals go to heaven. It has been corrected and the TODAY broadcast report has been taken down from the website.

Media reports that Pope Francis suggested that dogs can go to heaven circulated widely on Friday, wrongly reporting the Pope's original statement and the circumstances during which they were said.

Pope Francis never actually commented on the issue of whether dogs will do to heaven. According to Vatican Radio, the Pope said to a general audience (not a distraught boy as originally reported): "The Holy Scripture teaches us that the fulfillment of this wonderful design also affects everything around us.”

The misreporting stemmed from a report from the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, which interpreted the Pope's remarks to mean that dogs could go to heaven. The newspaper also drew comparisons to a quote from Pope Paul VI, which was then incorrectly attributed by many outlets to Pope Francis.

According to the Italian newspaper, it was Paul VI who had comforted a distraught boy with the words: “One day, we will see our animals again in the eternity of Christ. Paradise is open to all of God’s creatures.'’
