Democrats' Depressing New Reality
Yahoo News/The Atlantic ^ | December 12, 2014 | Russell Berman

To the very limited extent that congressional Democrats have enjoyed the last four years of gridlock on Capitol Hill, they have derived pleasure from watching the Republican Party rupture over and over again, its divisions between the conservative Tea Party and the establishment leadership preventing just about any real legislative accomplishments.

As afternoon turned to evening on Thursday, it was the Democrats who were turning on each other. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senator Elizabeth Warren, the liberal darling, railed against a White House-backed spending deal that narrowly passed the House just a couple hours before a midnight deadline for keeping the government open. During a marathon, closed-door meeting in the Capitol basement, Democrats debated two key questions: whether a pair of onerous giveaways for Wall Street and wealthy donors in a $1 trillion bill were cause for shutting down the government, and whether they could get a better deal from Republicans by rejecting this one.

"It does not get better." "It does not get better," Representative Gerry Connolly, a Virginia Democrat who voted for the bill, said on Friday morning. "Come January, Republicans will run not just the House but also the Senate, and the debates among Democrats about exactly how far they should retreat will become familiar.

The when-to-fight-and-when-to-fold arguments were reminiscent of those that have buffeted the GOP in recent years, in which Speaker John Boehner and Senator Mitch McConnell have struggled to contain Tea Party lawmakers demanding to fight Obama at every turn. "The White House and House and Senate Democrats will have to be playing on the same field," Israel said. Heading into 2015 and the new Republican Congress, that might prove the biggest challenge of all.

Ted Cruz and Mike Lee oppose this bill also; for different reasons. But, I must say that I agree with Elizabeth Warren on this. I'm tired of my tax money bailing out Wall Street and big banks who thought they were "too big to fail". Screw them!

LOL! Enjoying the gridlock. We all know that the gop-e has been responsible for nothing happening. Just ask hairy screed and he’ll tell you, and the lame stream mudia will report it as fact. The dhimmiokkkrats don’t have to be depressed long. 2016 isn’t that far off and funds are being raised to make lots of voters, uh, “aware” of what needs to done for those (s)elections.

Warren put herself in a hole. If they dont pull the amendment, Warrens faction kills the bill regardless of what Cruz and Lee do. (although I expect they will vote with her for their own reasons.)

If she votes for the bill with the provision in there, Hillary hammers it and nails Warren to the wall. However this might also hurt Hillary in that she may lose some Wall Street money.

None of these stories ever identify the amount of federal government revenue that will come in during the same time as the spending. So is the reader to assume that this spending is deficit-neutral?

If that is true, my children and grandchildren salute you, O leaders of the ruling class!

The Democrats may be weakened, but “Occupy GOP” worked. The Democrats can now rely on GOPe to complete the destruction of the U.S. as we know it.

I think Warren is going to be a strong candidate in 2016.

By the time the journ-0-lists are done with her, she’ll be a kindly Oklahoma grandma / brilliant Rutgers lawyer fighting for the middle class against Wall St.

Throw in a black VP for the Entitlement Army vote and she could well pull it off.

Oh, they’re doing that already. (Check out today’s Yahoo News Stories.) Hillary is old news; she may as well not even run. Warren will be Hillary’s “Obama problem” in 2016.

But, I must say that I agree with Elizabeth Warren on this. I'm tired of my tax money bailing out Wall Street and big banks who thought they were "too big to fail

The only reason your tax money went to bail out the banks was because the Democrats forced the banks to issue subprime loans.

The banks ended up paying back the TARP by the way. But did Obama's Porkulus get paid back to us? No!

I'll take the banks over the Demoncrats any day.
