The only thing that will stop these false accusations is wide spread publicity about the damages paid and who were the payers. The message must be loud and clear...”Don’t open your mouth unless you have solid evidence.”

Then one of the damaged parties need to sue and forego the “under the table” payoff. It’s the same with the issue when the cops are abusive. The whole mess needs to be laid bare out in the open so the taxpayers really understand what has happened and how it impacts their wallets. And there needs to be an end to this business of shielding the wrongdoers in the name of privacy.

Not only the taxpayers but the Rolling Stone, the author, and, possibly, the accuser.
