I fear we are about to get a Russian discourse on the meaning of the words “colony,” and “colonize.”

I know. And my original post wasn't as clear as I wanted. I think for Mother Russia (or as I call it now Putinstan) the concept of Ukraine not being subservient in all ways to Putin is just normal. Never mind the plunder of the Soviets, the ethnic cleansing, the starvation of Stalin's policies directed at the Ukrainians, and the whole Iron Curtain. For some Russians, these neighbors deserve the same benefits of autocracy, communism, and Putinism that Russians are getting. To provide that good government of Russian chauvinism, the poor Russians are required to invade and terrorize their neighbors. It's worse than the white man's burden, this Russian burden. We need to show more empathy for the poor dupes.

By the way, I have to wonder how the Crimean Russians that welcomed Putin feel now that the Russian currency is even worse than the Ukrainian one, especially if they're receiving a Russian pension vice the one they'd been getting from Ukraine.
