I read this article earlier. No where in the article does it say why the cost is going up. Corn is cheap, petroleum is cheap.
“I buy only the clearance beef..”
I bought some half price beef yesterday and left a couple packs for you:)
I think with the recent droughts out West have thinned the cattle herds. Also, with China growing they want to eat more beef.
Seasonal changes, drought, and price of feed from the drought took their toll.
Then there was last winters cold blasts that froze livestock in the pastures and fields.
In colder weather, livestock need more feed to stay warm and alive.
When farmers were having a problem meeting feed costs , they had to cull their herds.
Now there is a shortage of livestock, and stock breeders, and there may be a shortage for another year before costs level out.
There is no reason for the price skyrocketing prices. Three or four years ago, ranchers had to sell off their stock due to the drought but they should have built up their herds by now. During the huge sell off, prices should have dropped but they didn’t. Someone had to have been manipulating the price. The manipulaters saw people would pay higher prices so they’re still jacking prices up. It’s all about greed but they’re at the tipping point. The people can’t afford it so it’ll go unsold.
I suspect the good beef is being shipped to China and Japan where the price is much higher.
Lowest cattle population since 1958.
Those who believe that methane from cows causes global warming are happy.
