SONY PULLS THE PLUG ON 'THE INTERVIEW'

Sony has pulled the plug on the XMAS release of "The Interview," after a number of theater chains bailed.

Sony execs felt their out was if distributors yanked the film because of safety concerns. That would give Sony an out without directly bending to the hackers. Sony just released a statement, saying, "In light of the decision by the majority of our exhibitors not to show the film The Interview, we have decided not to move forward with the planned December 25 theatrical release."

The statement goes on, saying, "We are deeply saddened at this brazen effort to suppress the distribution of a movie, and in the process do damage to our company, our employees, and the American public."

The execs are underscoring the distinction between pulling the film because of the distributors rather than out of fear, saying, "We stand by our filmmakers and their right to free expression and are extremely disappointed by this outcome."

If you’re spending money distributing something that no one wants to buy would you continue to spend money marketing it?

Have you Borges, have ever heard of a concept called "principle", where one doesn't give into terrorism because of monetary value.

Supposedly, it’s just terrible.

It seems like an interesting story. Go kill Kim.

Theater chains are backing out of their exhibition deals. They don’t want to show it. It sucks but there it is.

Its more than the theaters. Another movie about NK that is in production has also been halted.

Well the people who actually buy are the customers and plenty of people want to buy the movie. There’s more than 1 way to distribute movie.

That is the most likely answer. Another might be that they did some in-house reviewing of as-yet unreleased emails and found enough dirt to fill a month of double-sized Enquirers.

That’s just stupid. What threat are they afraid of? During the early days of the Nazi regime, studios actually curtailed overt anti-German sentiment in films because they owned theaters in Germany. No such economic threat exists with NK.

Hard for me to feel sorry for a company that clears its pan&scan DVD overstock by fraudulently packaging them as widescreen versions.

I am beginning to see a problem....we conservatives had better get mean and demanding if we ever want to see our agenda enacted anywhere.

Major league cowards.I would not go to see it, but it just shows what cowards these people who inhabit our popular culture are. They did not do it as a matter of public safety; they just want to stop the email exposure.

If the CIA decides to take this clown out, it may be the one time modern Hollywood cheers them on and supports them 100%.

I take it you don’t agree with TMZ that this was a Sony strategy?

Sony execs felt their out was if distributors yanked the film because of safety concerns. That would give Sony an out without directly bending to the hackers.

Kind of like when the a Democrats figure out how many votes they need and then allow their members from conservative districts to vote against it and look good to the LIVs back home.

You have to wonder how much they got leaned on by
the current administration/State Dept.?

I’m willing to bet a lot.

Maybe Arronomus will release the emails
otherwise they will join Lois Lerner on Pluto.
