Rand Paul Breaks With Rubio and Bush Over Cuba

Rand Paul Breaks With Rubio and Bush Over Cuba Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is the latest potential presidential candidate to weigh in on policy changes to Cuba and the libertarian leaning Republican's position splits from other Republicans who are also considering a presidential run.

Paul told Tom Roten of News Talk 800 in West Virginia that the 50-year embargo "just hasn't worked" and normalizing relations with the island nation is "probably a good idea."

"If the goal is regime change, it sure doesn't seem to be working and probably it punishes the people more than the regime because the regime can blame the embargo for hardship," he said.

What is the difference between Cuba and Viet Nam in terms of “normalizing relations?”

Then how does Obama$$ keep getting away with it? Bypassing Congress is his middle name.

If it hasn’t worked, we need to ask ourselves:

“What are we trying to accomplish?”

I mean, is it regime change, reforms, free elections, or what? Then, we have to ask:

“Is there a better way to achieve the goal?”

We shouldn’t just end the current policy before we even have a discussion of what the new policy should be.

Just wait for him to give Castro the American installation at Guantanamo.

Concurring bump...I can almost hear Obama announcing the news and describing it as the correction of a historical injustice or some such nonsense.

Bypassing Congress is his middle name.

Actually, that would be "Hussein." As in, hussein enough to realize the damage being done by bypassing Congress, and Congress doing nothing about it. And Rand Paul has become complicit in this by supporting the Cuba unconstitutional normalization.

Rand, you're nothing to me now. You're not a brother, you're not a friend. I don't want to know you or what you do. I don't want to see you at the Senate, I don't want you near my House. When you go on C-SPAN, I want to know a day in advance, so I won't be there. You understand?

I would support normalization with Cuba after the Castro brothers meet Ceaucescu’s fate.

Did we wait for them to change their ways before we “normalized” relations? I am not aware that we ever instilled sanctions as stiffly upon Viet Nam as we did upon Cuba, but at some point they were no less Communist in practice, no?

Do you suppose that Vietnam being halfway around the world versus Cuba being at our front door may have had something to do with?

Cuban missile crisis, Cuba supporting terrorism worldwide, Che and the same commie leaders in power all these years? The Castro’?
