American troops just had their first real battle with Islamic State militants, after the terror group attempted to overrun Ein al-Asad base in Iraq in the middle of the night Sunday, the Kurdish news outlet Shafaq News reports. The U.S. troops absolutely decimated the militants, forcing a quick retreat. The counterattack was conducted in a joint operation with local tribal forces.

The attack occurred at Ein al-Asad base, which currently hosts nearly 100 U.S. military “advisers.” The U.S. troops engaged the militants in tandem with F-18 fighter jets, who provided air support. The battle lasted approximately two hours after an undisclosed number of militants were killed.

The Marine Corps has always faced threats of their abandonment. Corpsmen are generally not assigned except when the grunt battalions are mobilized going to war.

Since they’ve been active for the last 2 decades, most have forgotten what the T/Os were like prior to 1990.

Reserves have even more differing policies, which will evolve again depending upon the situation.

The end of ottoman empire was always the beginning of British empire in those lands controlled by the turkish ottoman empire.

Attila the Hun - look up the word ‘attila’ & its origins. I know what it means in Turkish.

“So the BuMed isn’t good enough?”

Explain precisely what you mean by above.

Well, I must confess that I too would run for my life if a 100 special forces guys (with F18’s supporting) were trying to kill me.

USMC is supported by the BuMed for Medical and Dental services.

No need to make a separate Medical Corps when it already exists.

“As for Iraq, the whole idea of double crossing the Kurds who love us, of wasting all the blood that has been spent fighting there, of refusing to finish the job and letting a country fall to terrorists is repugnant to me. For the Kurds alone we should wipe out the terrorists, and maybe ensure the Kurds, at least, get their own nation, if the political will is not there to go through the long haul of reforming Iraqi society.”

Can’t comment on the rest of your post, but what I quoted above, I agree with completely. IMO, only the Kurds and Israelis in that whole region really deserve a country of their own.

“...and driving them back into Syria.”

More like underground. Six feet or so. Best thing to do with ISIS or anyone else like them. What pisses me off is we’ve had to send people there three times now. Freaking politicians need a clue real bad.

From what I remember of history, and what I learned while stationed outside Diyarbakir, Turkey, the Kurds are what used to be called the Medes, as in the Medes and Persians. One of their folks was a guy our folks called Saladin.
