Taking movies and arbitrarily making them into musicals is utter NONSENSE.

Aw, and I was looking forward to the following:

  1. The Amazingly Musical Spider-Man
  2. Robocop: The Musical
  3. The Melody of Haruhi Suzumiya
  4. Lord of the Rounds (LotR)
  5. Rock Lee Rock
  6. Total Refrain (A Musical retelling of Total Recall)
  7. The 5th Elegy
  8. Avatar: The Last Aria-bender

Nothing encapsulates a musical more than the one shown on The IT Crowd episode "The Work Outing."

Like this.

The original Annie movie was a product of the time. Not only could you get away with a musical back in the late 70s and earliest 80s, but there was actually a bit of 1930s nostalgia at the time, which was only 50 years before.

More simply, Annie was a successful Broadway musical that was still in its original run when the 1982 John Huston movie was made. (Of course 1930s nostalgia would still explain the existence of the Broadway musical...)
