Was that in New Orleans? I subbed with The Valiants a few nights in '78 or '79 at Tipitina's and another club in Fat City in the days of Speedo Ray Earle, who also performed occasionally with The Neville Brothers (Art, Charles, Aaron, Cyril, Ivan and my pal, drummer Ziggy Modeliste). Most of the band members in Vince's show band (about a dozen at the time) were locals, so I assumed Vince was from The Big Easy too, but I never really got to know him. The Vance name certainly had a long established pedigree in the Crescent City. I would guess he must have graduated High School in '71 or '72 as he was just a year or two older than I.

A year or so later in 1980, Zigaboo got my steel band trio a gig with Robert Palmer (long before he was world famous) with The Meters at the Saenger Theatre playing "Every Kinda People".

Yes, Vince Vance and I graduated from the same high school in New Orleans. He is older than you think. I graduated in 1961. ;-) The school was in the Ninth Ward on St. Claude Avenue, which travelled to Canal Street and the Saenger Theater, if you are familiar enough with the area. ;-)

Vince Vance still performs at the high school reunion dances although, not living in the state, I have not been to the reunion dances.
