There are a good number of people in this nation that do not realize that it was not only white flight that killed Detroit. Hard working blacks fled as well.
I call it, “Productive Flight.”
The sole black family in my little town originated in Detroit. The father was a kid when the neighbors burned his father’s bakery to the ground in 67.
They moved to Jackson which was considerably better but the neighborhood went bad. They came out here to get the kids out of the city and out of danger. One teen daughter works at the party store part time. His oldest son is going to MSU and wants to be a farmer. They’re good people and have no fear of police or white folks.
