Harry Truman cared more about Democratic Party politics than he did about national security.
Truman had proof that Harry Dexter White was a Soviet agent, given to him by Hoover (see Elizabeth Bentley) but disliked Hoover and decided to double down on White and put him in the IMF where he could “keep an eye on him”.
Like hell. I used to respect Truman, but he was a political hack.

I do respect Truman for his decision to A-bomb the Japanese (or Nips or Japs as they were almost universally known then)and end the war.
