The nearest alternate river crossings are between 50 and 75 miles away. That would suck for travelers, but long-haul truckers would adapt quickly enough.

There are three bridges across the Mississippi at Memphis, one is a RR bridge, the bridge mentioned in the article is the older Memphis Arkansas Bridge, I55, the newest bridge is the Hernando DeSoto Bridge, I40.
