Sociologist Barry Glastner wrote The Culture of Fear. He told Sky News: "Americans are fairly unique as world citizens in that we tend to believe that we control our own destiny as individuals to a much greater extent than we really do."
Ironically, he points out preppers may actually be reacting to their fears in the least effective way. Dangerous weather, terrorist attacks and economic collapses are all best dealt with by higher authorities, he said.
BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Spoken like a good little collectivist.

I don't get the mockery, I really don't. I'm not expecting zombies or reptilian aliens sucking my precious bodily fluids, but I am expecting trouble because trouble happens. The power goes out - it happens, and sometimes it stays out for an inconvenient time. Access to the property is sometimes cut. Running water sometimes doesn't. People get injured and need help. And yes, believe it or not, there are bad people and animals out there that will try to hurt you. Really.
I feel like I'm talking to a four-year-old. Has this guy never experienced any adversity in his entire pampered city-boy life?
>>> Dangerous weather, terrorist attacks and economic collapses are all best dealt with by higher authorities, he said.
Because as everyone knows, roosting on one’s fanny whilst whining of misery to reporters and blogs, or rioting and burning one’s own neighborhood, are the surest means to improve one’s lot in life following a disastrous event.
>> Braxton Southwick is a typical father-of-six in Salt Lake City
I LOL’d knowing this is a Sky piece...
Meanwhile, Der Spiegel reports that Joe-Six-Pack, Helmut Wagner of Montana, is armed to the teeth with his vintage Haubitze.
Yep.
"Featured prominently in Michael Moore's Academy Award winning documentary, "Bowling for Columbine," Glassner has appeared on numerous television programs, including "The Oprah Winfrey Show," "The Today Show," "Good Morning America," "Hardball," "The O'Reilly Factor," The Dennis Miller Show, and "Nightline," and various news programs on CNN, CNBC, and MSNBC, and on radio shows including National Public Radios Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Fresh Air, Talk of the Nation, and Marketplace, and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporations Ideas program."
Quite simply, the best way to prepare for a zombie apocalypse is by moving to a small community filled with heavily armed, Bible-believing Christians. A good smattering of military veterans living there increases security ten-fold. And electing a pro-2nd amendment, Constitutional sheriff in the county gives you legal and armed muscle to repel invasions from state-sponsored terrorist groups.
Sit back little sheep. You are too stupid and puny to help yourself or others. Only the almighty government can do such things.
Man alive, does this putz know how this country was built? Does ANYONE - at all - remember rugged individualism, the American spirit?
Have we really become a nation of sissy pajama boys?
I got $20 that says this guy believes in global warming and that governments should demand societal changes in order to stop globull warming. Make that $50!
I have about a 100 issues of that old hippie magazine "Mother Earth". Among all my prepper food I have mucho Chili Powder for any critters I may have to harvest to add to rice, beans, corn etc.
