CATOOSA, Okla. — A middle school teacher in Oklahoma was fired Wednesday after she took a group of students on a snack run, piling them all into her car.

Heather Cagle, a yearbook and math teacher, decided to do “something sweet” for her journalism students and take them to Wal-Mart for snacks, according to Tulsa World.

Sounds like an adventure to me. And two in the trunk might mean that two are sitting in the trunk and the hatch cover removed.

stuffing 13 kids in a car without seatbelts and without permission and taking them off-campus is very inappropriate

When I was in junior college, we had a fairly small track team. We had to drive to Pensacola. The school car would hold around 7 and the other 5 rode with one of the coaches.

Now this coach was not your ordinary coach. He had actually driven a Nash Healy at Le mans. He also was an Engineer from Georgia Tech.

This was in the mid 60s and he had a 3 cylinder Saab. In order to get us all in the car, the coach’s hot daughter had to sit in my lap. We had to listen to jokes the whole way there and back.

With the coach sitting right next to us there was not going to be any hanky panky tho.

Even in a rural area teachers should not be trying to have friendships with kids like this

never trust government agents with kids, especially public school agents

and if there had been a car crash, you would have a very different opinion of a teacher taking kids out of school illegally and stuffing them into a car illegally I bet.

She should be charged with felony endangerment

Taking them in her car is one thing... but the trunk ?

Were they wearing seat safety belts?

There are limits. Buying beer for a minor is illegal.

She’s just guilty of letting the kids have fun.

I prefer the Waldorf Method where kids stay together in the same class group from year to year with the same teacher from K to 8. Less distraction and very tight and deep bonding, ultimate trust development, friends for life. And yes, Waldorf teachers will pile them into a van and take them to a fun center or park playground just to break monotony; seat belts of course and booster seats if necessary!

Wow. She is a human being community member who loves her students. In the United States I grew up in, teachers were friends and family. I spent a whole lot of time at teachers’ houses as a child and teenager. We went on weekend field trips and stayed with our teacher’s family a few times. I babysat for the children of teachers. I went to church with teachers. Teachers worked summer day camp jobs, and we were all better off for their involvement in our lives at school and away from school.

I think this teacher was a bit stupid for taking more students than could legally fit in her vehicle, but I don’t fault her for the rest. My teachers allowed me to sneak off campus a time or two to purchase things like pizza or doughnuts and to bring them back to school to share.

When my son was hit by a car last year, I spent almost all of my time at the hospital. For five weeks, I barely saw my younger children. My daughter’s teacher took my children to school events and to baseball games. If she hadn’t, my children would have stayed home doing nothing. I found it a blessing to find teachers who were like the ones of my childhood.

Her biggest crime was allowing her students to eat items forbidden by Queen Moochelle.

Taking 11 middle school kids to Wal-Mart for an impromptu “field trip” is irresponsible enough, but leaving two students alone and unattended back at the school(I guess they couldn’t fit all of them in the car trunk?) Crazy.

I had a vehicle that seated eight. In our small town I would have me and the largest passenger in the front buckets. My four would be buckled in, and my neighbors three plus the other neighbor’s two would be double buckled in the back two rows of three. The storage area in the back had blankets picnic, umbrella and miscellaneous. The kids held the two inflated inner-tube truck tires one on each side out the windows. We drove to our local state park lake.

Had a state park annual pass. They just stopped counting heads after a while, smiled and waved us through. We were sort of famous for a few seasons. When I opened the SUV door, it was like watching a clown car unload.

When I sold the vehicle, one of the kids, who was then in his mid teens said, Oh no! I grew up in that car. He was right. Good times were had and adventures and risks taken.

You’re smart enough to peek behind the curtain. The more people that can be made to say, “Ohhhh something BAD might happen!!!” the more Big Government steps in and pats your head and says, “We’ll make sure the BAD THING doesn’t happen to you!!!” You may wonder what has caused the insidious society were living in. That is EXACTLY it. Don’t be an enabler. Remember, they’ll seize EVERY opportunity now. Even making a literal federal case out of a teacher having fun with her students. GeronL: Don’t fall for it.

If I was one of the kids that got to ride in the trunk of the teachers car....talk about popularity!
