The heretic dean is like a wolf guarding the hen house. As a Catholic, "churchy" and art have worked hand-in-hand, until Post-Vatican II. Would Michangelo's "Sistine Chapel" or Chartes Cathedral be classified as "churchy" by Dean Shaw? I would guess Serrano's "Piss Christ" is her ideal of religious art.

Art can be beautiful. Even inspiring. And yes the Stanford university church is very pretty. But the Stanfords not only left us a beautiful church, they left us a great art collection too. We respectfully suggest you stroll over to the Stanford (Cantor) art museum if you would rather work there. They always can use more docents.

The Very Reverend Dr. Jane Shaw is from the Church of England, I guess they still call themselves “Anglican”, though that is not really the case anymore. They are more like the “Church of the Labour Party”. And their religious doctrine is pretty much distilled to “if it feels good, do it.”

I am reminded of an episode of the BBC comedy Yes, Prime Minister, when the PM had to appoint a new CofE bishop, with his only choices being a Muslim or an atheist.
