Well, is state nullification of unconstitutional federals acts and decisions “war against our government”? Isn’t it more accurate to say the government’s illegal and unconstitutional acts have made war on us?
Arizona has just passed an initiative into law that make it legal for the AZ legislature or state Supreme Court to review a federal law and if it is found to be unconstitutional (ex. Obamacare), then AZ reserves the right to ignore it. Now, I don’t think AZ has declared war on the federal government, but it is taking steps to curb illegal federal activity in AZ.
We shouldn’t wait while the federal government continues to make incremental illegal and unconstitutional encroachments on the states and the people. There are things like state nullification that need to start now. They’re trying for a Convention of States. Hope it works. I personally think it is a long shot because even if all the hoops are jumped through accurately, wisely, and with the desired amendments, it is hard to image the necessary government shutdown of a huge part of the federal government apparatus. Government doesn’t willfully commit suicide. There’s too many on the government payroll. In the end, it’s really all about the money.
It is clear that Obama and the Left as well as the GOPe is more interested in expanding the government than being ruled by the law of the Constitution which would require massive cuts in the size of government. What’s different from this than what they had in 1776? Not a lot, IMO.
To me, as the Declaration of Independence lays out, it is not us, but the government, who has violated the law and instigated unrest. And as our forefathers also said, it is not only our right, but our duty to rebel and fight against government tyranny and slavery.
Again, the first steps are not “war”, but forcing the constitutional Rule of Law upon those that have vowed an oath to “preserve, protect, and defend” it.
Incrementalism. That may be true — frog in warm water.
IMO, the only time we should consider something a lot more drastic is when there no hope left. But there is still hope and it is always best to try to change things within the system as AZ are doing. We have a lot more to lose if we don’t try.
America is still the greatest country in all of human history. More people have more wealth and comfort than any time in human history and the rewards still exist if you are willing to work hard.
Is that all changing? It certainly appears to be and maybe America will end up like all governments in history with eventual dissolution. Maybe it follows the life cycle of a human being — birth, infancy and vulnerability, youth and vigor, middle age and lethargy, and then failing health and eventual death. Maybe it is inevitable.
