Heck, they even ridiculed Churchill in the 1930s for suggesting that one day Britain would have to fight Hitler.
The German army had order to pull out of the Sudatenland if the British or French made any military moves to stop them. It never happened. But if it had, history might have turned out quite differently.
Of course, I most certainly wouldn’t be here, but that’s another issue.
