How I feel you. My parents are alive and “well” but suffer from Alzheimer’s and I’m having some serious trust issues with someone in my family who may be lying to me, there is strong evidence, which means also I may be being cheated as well. This has been the worst year of my life bar none because I’d always heard what other families can come to over money but never ever thought it would happen to mine. Devastating.
My sympathies for your loss but even worse for the loss of decency around you. Yes, yes, this is worse than losing the loved one. If they were good, they’ve gone to their reward, but to see the ugliness and unfairness we are left with...
I know this sounds base, and deflating, but line up lawyers NOW.
You won’t have the presence of mind when something happens to do it then, trust me. And the strange thing is, the buzzards all act like it’s perfectly normal, and band together, like swarmers at a garage sale.

I’ve seen enough of this with my family and others as well...So I’ve put names under all my furniture and belongs....and they all know who gets what. Now.
Anything else is in the will....
I have learned too that when the mother or father depart whatever your relationship with each family member will esculate...if good then it’ll get even better...if bad...you likely won’t see them much after if that.
