No you don’t, but when Fleming wrote Bond’s character, he was referring to a specific, accepted Scots background. Bond’s background is important to the man he is.

Yeah, and when Fleming wrote Bond’s character, there were no computers, and no cell phones, and there was no possibility of man going to space. All premises used by the present day Bond. Bond also seduced a black woman in one of the movies if I recall. Would Ian Fleming’s Bond have done that?
