Liked the reminder of the Christmas 1914 truce and the poppy display for all those who died in the war. My grandfather fought in that war 100 years ago.

What blew my mind is this fact, that Queen Elizabeth is now the only living head of state that put on the uniform during World War Two.

She’s got a better moral character than any scumbag politician who has gladhanded, backstabbed and lied to get to where they ever got to. That is the thing with constitutional monarchs, sure, some of them are arseholes, but unlike democratically elected politicians, it is actually possible for a decent person to occasionally end up in the position of being head of state, wheras rising to the top in politics virtually requires somebody to descend into the gutter to defeat their rivals for the top job.
