Putin brought it on himself then starts blaming every other country for it ...

But, but, but I thought the sanctions were narrow and ineffective and that the Russians just laughed at them.

I think we are being set up as the boogieman. Explaining to the average Russian that having the bulk of their economy based on oil production and pricing is a bad thing would lead to discontent with the leadership. Instead, blame it on the imperialistic Americans who don’t want Russia to save their brethren in the Ukraine from the horrible Ukrainian fascists. Those evil Americans imposed crippling sanctions designed to starve Russian children.

This will not end well.

I think I read somewhere recently that for each dollar per barrel that the price of oil drops it costs the Russians 1 billion per week. That really starts to add up when the price drops 40 bucks.

WTI crude is less than $54. Maybe it will go down to near $20 and stay there for about a year or so.

;-)

I won’t celebrate this development. When a military power like Russia becomes economically ravaged, bad things could happen.

This is similar to what did to Japan, pre-WWII. It ended with 07 December 1941.

We really, really need to reconsider.

Trust me Mr Putin: If Obama had his way, oil would still be high, America would still be wholly dependent on the middle east for oil and the Russian economy would be going full bore.

Putin should peg the ruble to the market price of an AK-47. If I wait long enough I should be able to get one for $10.34 USD plus shipping.
