It might work better of they all vote for Pelosi and then we have real gridlock.

Actually, that could happen. If enough refused to vote for Boehner, that would give the Dems the majority vote ( remember the Speaker is voted on by the whole House ). So , if the Dems put Pelosi up as their candidate, she would win.

To be elected speaker, 218 votes are needed.

If Nancy gets 189 [the number of dems in the new House], she doesn’t get elected speaker - even if no repub gets more than her. A plurality doesn’t win speakership - only a majority

So boehner can be pushed out without allowing nancy to take over b/c winning speaker takes a majority [not a plurality]

Unless some Rs vote for Nancy, she’ll not be speaker.

We need 29 Rs to vote for someone other than beohner. That would keep him from winning it. Then if no individual gets a majority, it’s a revote... which would decimate boehner. In this case, boehner could only be elected speaker if dems vote for him - which is a real possibility.

ANd I sure would like to see boehner be elected by dems and not repubs.
