Government employees can enjoy luxurious overseas business trips on the taxpayers dime thanks to generous foreign per diem rates established by the State Department.
Per diem rates include the cost of lodging, meals and incidental expenses that the government is willing to give civilian federal employees for their official foreign travel. The rates are meant to cover lodging at adequate, suitable and moderately-priced facilities and meals at facilities typically used by employees at that location, according to the State Department's office of allowances.
All federal employees traveling to foreign countries on official business can get reimbursements from the government at the rates the State Department has set.
The agency has established different per diem rates for various cities around the world, with some affording government travelers more amenities than others.

“The Cannes per diem rate has been in effect since Dec. 1, 2014. Previous summer allowances for the city have shot as high as $760 per day between November 2013 and October 2014, according to State Department archives.”
And why do government employees need to go to Cannes? The film festival? Anybody who suggests that government spend can be cutis an extremist.
Say what??
Saying someone’s been drinking heavily on this NY’s eve !@
If someone is fronting me $700 per diem, I can stay at a great hotel and have dinner at the best restaurants.
Hell, I’d find a reason to travel 3 or 4 times a years.
Most major cities and places like London and Tokyo are very expensive. Per diem does not cover the top hotels who rarely offer U.S. Government rates. You end up staying at 2d or 3d tier hotels that are often run down and not well located. I’m usually lucky to break even and some of the hotels are a legend for what you have to put up with, Seoul comes to mind.
The State Department often waives the per diem rates for their own employees. It’s good to be the king.
“and meals at facilities typically used by employees at that location, “
They serve meals at the brothels ?
The Brits have nothing on our Ruling Class Masters.
Even a lowly Government Bureaucrat experiences a lifestyle that my 45 Years of gainful Employment and sacrificing for the future will never afford me. If I had it to do over again, I would have opted out of the Corporate world and joined the Government Utopia movement.
And yew'd better not be one of them "Tea Party" types, neither.
Another argument for tax resistance.
Things like this are why politicians find it impossible to cut spending. They just can’t see how bad it looks, They’re morally blind.
Not sure they don't have some other reason to be there - went TDY a lot in the military and never got the exorbitant rates stated here - must be for the "non-military" types that ruin the perception for the rest. Occasional events in an area raised prices and it was a toss-up if we got full reimbursement in some cases.

Yeah, I gotta wonder what the per diem rate is for Walker Hill — with or without “escort services.”
The best part is when you come back to your room and discover that the “escort services” have been borrowing it during the day.

Taken in the context of the thread surely you could see that it was pure sarcasm. Stupid sarcasm tags are insulting to the intelligent. But I occasionally get reminders that they are necessary. Still will not use them. Just plain stupid.
Maybe you should work on your spelling. /sarc
It was more a matter of poor typing rather than spelling. Quickly tapping on iPad. Omitted “ing: and ran two words together. That should be obvious. But then obviously not to all.
No, it was a matter of NOT making sense. What is cutis? So, it’s not so “obvious”.

“What is cutis?”
Two very common monosyllabic words. One being “cut” and the other “is”. If you did not know what the word is why would you deem it to be misspelled? There’s know way I would believe that you were not bright enough to immediately get these two words and that they had been run together. My apology for not typing correctly and for not proofing.
