I know how you worry. BUT.......a man of his age with multiple broken ribs can be serious. With the fracture come intense pain. Because the ribs must move with excursion of the chest wall there is never any complete letup of pain. But these patients splint the movement of the portion of the chest wall affected. This splinting results in atelectasis (small area of the lung ‘collapsing on itself’) which gives rise to pneumonia. And we all know that pneumonia in a person this age......well,.....it could degenerate to a very serious situation. Now, I do not mean to unnecessarily worry you, but this is the natural evolution of fractured ribs. Mr. Reid could......you know,......go downhill. We will all try not to worry.

Your concern is noted. We’ll all try not to worry!

Judging from your name, could there be a song in there somewhere?
