Believe it or not but New Jersey as late as 1973 had no sales tax and no state income tax, great roads, low property taxes and a wide industrial base. Today its decay is a testament to what happens when Democrats have power for prolonged periods.

New Jersey instituted a sales tax during the governorship of Richard Hughes in the mid-Sixties.
