Boehner Acknowledges Punishing Conservatives For Opposing His Re-Election

Speaker of the House John Boehner acknowledged Wednesday that he punished two Republicans who opposed his re-election by stripping them of committee assignments.

Reps. Daniel Webster and Richard Nugent, both Republicans, lost their seats on the House Rules Committee hours after voting for someone else for speaker on Tuesday. In total, 25 Republicans voted against Boehner.

“Because of some of the activities on the floor,” Boehner explained in a Wednesday news conference, “two of our members weren’t put back on the committee immediately.”

Referencing the vote, Boehner said he plans to talk to his members about how to unify as the new session of Congress heats up.

“We’re going to have a family conversation,” Boehner said. “Which we had this morning about bringing our team together. And I expect that those conversations over the next couple of days will continue.”

I guess instead of a horse’s head, conservatives can expect to wake up with an open bag of Cheetos dumped inside their beds.

When Boehner is gone, who replaces him?

If conservatives are getting nothing out of the Republican Party, they should just declare themselves independents. At least then they will not get any blame for the next two years of tragedy.

Punishing Congressmen for representing the wishes of their constituents? Boehner is a bitter little punk...thanks, Ohio.

I agree with your sentiments about Boehner, but remember he is a congressman and is elected by the people in Ohio's 8th congressional district, those are the idiots you should 'thank' for electing him, not the entire state of Ohio.

There is only one way to flush this turd down the bowl. Next time if he isn’t beaten in a primary, SUPPORT THE DEMOCRAT.

It’s worth losing a seat to get rid of this bastard.

I tried, I called / emailed/ facebook posted to my representatives and to several others..... we can only hope that all of the complaining to them after the fact will do something. I doubt it but you just never know.

As did I, but my rino pimp, murphy, sent me back an auto-response, that basically said...piss off.

I've already told my freshman senator, that if he is depending on TEA party folks to help him get re-elected, he has a better chance with philly-demonRATS than with me and my folks.

The turn coat plick wanted to enact "responsible gun control" along side his demonRAT buddy from WV, munchkin.

Even my RINO Republican Congressman Gibson from upstate NY voted against him as he announces he won’t run for re-election but instead contemplates statewide (governors) run in 2018.

I keep hearing the talking points from those that voted for Boehner that ‘Gohmert/Webster’ are good guys but can’t bring the caucus together.’ Uh, NO ONE has done more to divide the house majority than the current Speaker. He’s been a walking, talking disaster.

A real “leader” would have immediately taken all of the people who voted against him out for dinner and had a frank and open discussion to find out what’s wrong.

A simple gesture like that would have signaled that you were a thoughtful and measured leader willing to look at possible problems and get things on track.

Boehner, instead, showed that he has the maturity of a high schooler and an introspective potential equal to Obama’s.

This is sickening and infuriating! Called Boehner’s office but, of course, can’t get thru. They wonder why Republicans are disgusted?! We had to deal with the Obama Admin retaliatory practices and now it’s blatantly done by the Republican ‘leaders’! God help America.
