LOL. Half the Liberals in America, along with a good chunk of the media, suggested that the cartoonists had it coming for “provoking” the Islamists and yet the Washington Post finds a way to spin it into an attack on Catholics. I read what Bill Donohue wrote. It was ill timed and not the right response to what happened, but it is not nearly as bad as the statements of some others in the media who reflexively blamed the satirists.

His point, in this instance, is valid. This group constantly pokes sticks in the eyes of religions … Muslim and Christian alike. Did they deserve what they got? Heck no! But is it wise to publish the material they did? I wouldn't do it, that's for sure.

I’d just like to know if their tack would be the same if some extremist Christians murdered Bill Maher. Would there be all this sympathy and understanding for the attackers? Would they say Maher “had it coming” and “provoked” the murderers?

What if a fringe group of Mormons shot up the studio where South Park is made? Would there be all this sympathy and understanding for the attackers? Would they say the South Park folks “had it coming” and “provoked” the murderers?

If not, they’re hypocrites of the first order. Muslims have no special right to murder as a response to satire and ridicule, no matter how badly they may have thought it was deserved.

I'm not Catholic.

And I'm glad I don't live where any Muslims live (I used to) because my impulse would be to "provoke" a confrontation.

My reading of Donohue here is that he is saying that the religious, the faithful, are regarded by the Left as fair game in an open season---for Christians that certainly has been true for years.

Donohue argues that we are marginalized by such treatment, and we deserve to be angry, and to make our case boldly.

His ONLY usage of "provoke" is to say ""But neither should we tolerate the kind of intolerance that provoked this violent reaction."

So the Washington Post finds a way to make this a smear and an attack against Christianity.

Are these the same Catholics who ran the Inquisition for 500 or so years and set progress back a thousand years by burning all the smart people at the stake? Shutting the bleep up would be good advice for that bunch simply because , at one time or another, they’ve pulled the same vicious, cheap krap that the mzzies do.
