Austin has had California Envy for about 20 years. Any nutty idea spawned out there is tried here. After the bag ban, I moved to the suburbs and I keep a spare plastic bag for if I shop (rarely) in the city.
But Abbott hasn't poked the two biggest local overreaches - "sanctuary cities" and gender equality ordinances that outlaw common sense in the name of ethnic or sexual diversity. IMO, these are even worse than bag bans.
